Direction: Write an essay of 160-200words based on the following drawing .In your essay ,you should 1) describe the drawing briefly 2) explain its intended measing and 3) give your comments You should write neatly on ANSWER SHEET2.(20points) Our surroundings are being polluted fast and man's present efforts can not prevent it. Time is bringing us more people, and more people will bring us more industry, more cars, larger cities and the growing use of man-made materials. What can explain and solve this problem? The fact is that pollution is caused by man -- by his desire for a modern way of life. We make "increasing industrialization" our chief aim.So we are often ready to offer everything: clean air, pure water, good food, our health and the future of our children. There is a constant flow of people from the countryside into the cities, eager for the benefits of our modern society. But as our technological achievements have grown in the last twentyyears, pollution has become a serious problem. Isn't it time we stopped to ask ourselves where we are going-- and why? It makes one think of the story about the airline pilot who told his passengers over the loudspeaker,"I've some good news and some bad news. The good news is that we're making rapid progress at 530 miles per hour. The bad news is that we're lost and don't know where we're going. " The sad fact is that this becomes a true story when speaking of our modern society. In my opinion, to protect environment, the government must take even more concrete measures. First, it should let people fully realize the importance of environmental protection through education. Second, much more efforts should be made to put the population planning policy into practice, because more people means more people means more pollution. Finally, those who destroy the environment intentionally should be severely punished. We should let them know that destroying environment means destroying mankind themselves.

  2. [A] above [B] unlike [C] excluding [D] besides [答疑编号1000020202]「参考答案」B「答案解析」…this is largely because, animals, we stand upright.

   3. [A] limited [B] committed [C] dedicated [D] confined [答疑编号1000020203]「参考答案」A「答案解析」选项A. be limited to 被限制在……;B. be committed to 被交给……,答应承担……义务;C. be dedicated to 奉献,献给;D. be confined to 限制在,局限于。 be confined to有"把……

   5. [A] anyway [B] though [C] instead [D] therefore [答疑编号1000020205]「参考答案」B「答案解析」由于本句中的in fact提示了转折关系,因此要选择转折的逻辑关系词。

   6. [A] even if [B] if only [C] only if [D] as if [答疑编号1000020206]「参考答案」A「答案解析」"事实上,我们对气味极其敏感,…… 选项A. even if 即使(表让步);B. if only 但愿(后常接虚拟语气,表示愿望);C. only if 如果(用于表达条件关系,only表强调);D. as if 似乎(用于表达比较关系)。

Strangely, some people find that they can smell one type of flower but not another。(9)____others are sensitive to the smells of both flowers. This may be because some people do not have the genes necessary to generate (10) ______smell receptors in the nose. These receptors are the cells which sense smells and send (11) ______to the brain. However, it has been found that even people insensitive to a certain smell (12) _____can suddenly become sensitive to it when (13)_____ to it often enough.

  10. [A] unusual [B] particular [C] unique [D] typical

[A] subjected [B] left [C] drawn [D] exposed 选项A. be subjected to 遭受,屈服于;B. be left to 被留给……;C. be drawn to 被拖到……;D. be exposed to 暴露在……(经常接触)。 D. The explanation for insensitivity to smell seems to be that the brain finds it (14) _____ to keep all smell receptors working all the time but can (15) _____ new receptors if necessary. This may (16) ______explain why we are not usually sensitive to our own smells——we simply do not need to be. We are not (17) ______of the usual smell of our own house, but we (18) _____ new smells when we visit someone else's. 15.

  16. [A] still [B]also [C] otherwise [D] nevertheless 选项A. still 仍然;B. also 也;C. otherwise 否则;D. nevertheless 然而,虽然如此。"

  17. [A] sure [B] sick [C] aware [D] tired 因此,选aware of. sure of "确信",sick of "厌倦",tired of "厌倦"都不合句意。
